A letter from Dave Sim...

In continuing our conversations on comic book Creator’ Rights, I am posting Dave Sim’s latest letter to me. Dave is responding to my blog posts "Comics and Work-Made-for-Hire: Creator’s Rights", "An e-mail from Erik Larsen...", "An e-mail from Fernando Ruiz…", and "An e-mail from Steve Bissette..."
With his letter, Dave had included a copy of Steve Bissette’s "En Route… another true-life tale." Which I won’t be posting here.

I do think there could be a happy medium between Dave’s two examples on how creators work in comics. I don’t begrudge anyone from going out and getting the best deal that they can from a publisher and making as much dough as they can (as in Dave’s "Wild West" example). I’m not an advocate of a Socialist approach for creators. I like the guild idea where creator’s can sit down and talk about the business end of comics (contracts, page rates, ownership, Creator’ Rights, and such). How come we can’t even do that?
